Welcome to Goblin Network!

First Things First – Have you joined Goblin Network?

Thank you for joining Goblin Network.  The benefits are great.  As a “Publisher”, the cost to run your own business is only $15 per month.  The next step is to answer the question, “HOW DO I GET STARTED?”

Getting Started – Not to worry.  It’s as easy as 1-2-3.  This article will take you through the three (3) basic steps of Goblin Network.

  1. Setting up your Profile.
  2. Writing your first article.
  3. Posting your first ad.

STEP 1 – Setting Up Your Profile  (Account Log in)
When you first join Goblin Network, you will be sent an email that you’ve made your payment and you’re ready to login.  Go to the homepage of Goblin Network and click on the login tab in the top right of the screen.  That will take you to a screen that looks like the following graphic where you enter your Username and Password that you selected when you joined.

Follow the instructions and login with your email address and your password that you selected.  Once you login you will come to the Dashboard that looks like the following screen.

The Dashboard
This is where you see an overview of Goblin Network from within the back-office.  On the top you will see options to Manage Articles, Manage Ads, View Ad Stats, Affiliate Admin (if you joined as an Affiliate) and Help (you can email our Support team).  You will also see a snapshot of how many articles are at Goblin Network, comments people have written, the ability to write a Quick Post, and some other features.

Your Profile
The first thing you should do is update your ProfilePLEASE DO NOT CHANGE YOUR EMAIL OR PASSWORD WHEN YOU ARE IN THE PROFILE TAB AS IT WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF THE SYSTEM. When you are in the Profile, you can upload a photo of yourself, write about who you are, put in your website address with your http:// at the beginning and all this information will go into the Publisher Directory that visitors can see when they click on that link on the Goblin Network main page.

Step 2 - Writing Your First Article
For this lesson, we are going to focus on writing an article, so on the left you will see a toolbar under the word Dashboard.  This is where you control everything related to writing, editing and publishing an article to Goblin Network.  We are actually using the Manage Articles tab at the top of the screen when you are at the Dashboard page upon logging in.  Let’s get started writing an article.

Writing Your First Article – It’s Easy.
dashboard_leftOn the left side bar you will see the following graphic.  It says, Posts, Media, Comments, Profile and Tools.  This is where you control everything related to the articles you are publishing to the Goblin Network Interactive Magazine™.

Posts
This is the tab where you write your articles.  You can Edit your articles under the Edit button or Add New under the Add New button.  You want to select the Add New button to get started writing your first article.  When you do that a new page is going to come up that is going to look like the one below.  The first block is where you put in your headline for your article.  Beneath the headline is a series of tools on a toolbar.  Below that is where you type the text for your article.

The Toolbar
You have two options on the right, Visual and HTML.  If you are using HTML code for your article, click that tab on the right otherwise leave it in the Visual toolbar.   At the end of the toolbar, on the same line as the Bold and Italic buttons, is a colorful little button all the way at the end of the first line, if you move your mouse over it, it will say Kitchen Sink.  Click that to open up all of your options for formatting the text and features of your article, such as adding color, underlining, videos, etc.

Add a Graphic
On the left of the Visual and HTML is the Upload/Insert tabs.  The first button is where you add a graphic to your article, like we have done in this article.  You need to make sure your graphics are in a .jpg, .gif or .png format to work within your article and for people visiting Goblin Network to see the graphics.  Once you click the first tab to add a graphic or image, it will give you options, such as if you want the graphic to be large, small, medium and where you want it positioned in your article.

The Textbox
You write your article just like using a word processor.  Simply type your text into the text box.  Once you type your text, you have options using the Publish box that is up to the right of where you are typing your article.  You can
Save Draft, if you want to save your article and come back later and work on it as a Draft, Preview your article to see what it will look like once you publish it and it goes live or Publish your article.  You can also Delete your article using the red button to the left of the Publish button.  It’s really that simple and you can always come back and Edit your article, even after you have Published it to the site!  That’s a Goblin Network exclusive since most sites won’t let you edit your content once you post to their website or delete your article.

Before You Publish Your Article
Before you publish your article live, don’t forget to select the Categories you want your article to appear in.  Please select three (3) or four (4) categories at the most.  This will help readers find your articles.  You can see the Category list on the right and if you don’t see one you want and you want us to add one for you, just email support and we’ll make that happen.  Also, select the Tags you want to include with your article.  These are like keywords to help people find your article, again don’t go crazy, but select some keywords that relate to your article.  That’s it, you’ve published your first article.  You completed Steps 1
and 2.  Great Job!  Bravo!

Go ahead and give it a try.  Write your first article and we’ll populate it with Goblin Network ads.  If you are an Affiliate with us, your Affiliate I.D. will be in the ads.

Managing Your Ads
Now, we need to show you how to include some ads around your article.  This is done using the Manage Ads tab at the top of the page. You can place up to three ads in an each article and you get 30 Display Ads a month without additional CPM (cost per thousand impressions) or CPC (cost per click) fees.  When you click the Manage Ads tab the page will look like the following graphic with a list of the articles you have published to Goblin Network.  To the left of the article name is a drop down arrow and you will want to click this to begin managing your advertisements.

Once you click the down arrow on a specific article you will be given three options for the ad you want to Post to the article.  You can manage the Top 728 x 90 ad size, the Middle 300 x 250 or the Bottom 728 x 90 ad size.  The screen will look like the following graphic.

If you want to see if you have placed an ad in that article, you can click on the arrow key next to the description.  For example, if you click on the Rectangle Top Ads arrow the screen will change and it will tell you that no ads are posted for this article yet.

We are going to click on the Post New Ad To This Size button to the right and Upload an Ad to this article.  When we click on that link the screen will change and to tell us that we are posting a Rectangle Ad 728 x 90 in size (your ad must be this size to format properly) into this article.  The screen will look like the following graphic.

The first option you have is what kind of an ad you want to place in the article.  When you click the arrow on Banner Option Tab, it will ask you if you want to Upload an Ad, Link To An Ad, Use A 3rd Pary HTML Ad, Create a Text Ad or Use A Goblin Network Ad.  For this example, we are going to Upload an Ad, which is very simple as you will see.  First you need a 728×90 ad for this ad size.  If you don’t have one, create one with one of your software programs or if you are with a company ask the Marketing Department to give you one.  Select Upload To Goblin from the drop down box.  The screen will look like this now.  Also notice that it shows that there are 105 ad credits available for this user since they have been accumulating ads that they are not using.

From here it’s very easy…

  1. Select an ad name – What do you want to call the ad you’re going to upload for the computer to know what to call it when it puts it in your article?
  2. Choose the file you’re going to upload – Push this button and tell the system where to get the file on your computer.
  3. Click-thru URL – When someone clicks on the ad, where do you want to send them?
  4. Assign the ad to other articles – Do you want this same ad to go in your other articles too?  This is so you don’t have to upload the ad to all the other articles individually, however, if you delete it from this article, it will delete it from all them as well.

That’s it!  Click Sumbit and you’re done, if you want it assigned to other articles select those articles as well.  Let’s see if it worked!  Click Here and see if the article has an ad for the Xelr8 Bazi drink in the top position?  Some of you are asking, “What about that YouTube video you have in the article too?  How did you do that?”.

YouTube VIDEOS IN YOUR AD SPACE
You can add a YouTube video or other video to your articles using the tabs a the bottom of the Visual Toolbar as we described earlier.  However, you can also use the 3rd Party HTML feature instead of the Upload an Ad feature for the 300 x 250 ad size to drop in a YouTube video.  What a great way to add some sizzle to your article!  You do this by selecting the 3rd Party HTML feature and then in the code you get from YouTube (embed this video to the right of the video you want to insert), make sure you size it for 300 x 250 for the size of the ad space before you hit the Submit button and don’t add a click-thru link.  It’s really that easy.  Give it a try and have fun putting ads with your content.
